Persuasive Writing

The class has been learning about persuasive tools used in advertisements and how they are used to get people to purchase products. In groups they made their own advertisements and presented them digitally as well as orally to the class.  They also had to write a letter to the principal about something at school they feel passionate about or have an opinion about. Before they started their letter that had to plan their argument using a planning structure (Persuasive Burger) to make sure their ideas were clear and precise.

Here are some of the learning intentions we have been working on...
  • We are learning how persuasive language is used in advertisements to get the consumer to buy a product.
  • We are learning about the different types of language features or persuasive tools, these are as follows: repetition, rhetorical question, exaggeration, emotive language, deferring to experts, and simile.
  • We are learning how to create our own advertisement using the persuasive language tools.
  • We are learning to use a variety of digital tools to make the advertisement visually appealing.
  • We are learning how to use a graphic organiser to plan and structure our persuasive writing.
How do we know if our writing is successful and at a high standard:
  • Identified three clear ideas and have elaborated on them.(Persuasive Burger)
  • Included six language features in the advertisement and persuasive letter.
  • Have used a variety of sentence starters.
  • Have ticked off your success criteria check list with your buddy before showing the teacher.  Success Criteria
